Restoration & repair
From routine maintenance to major structural work, every intervention is planned to be reversible where possible and to preserve the instrument’s original material and character.
- Crack and seam repairs, edge and corner work
- Neck resets, fingerboard planing and replacement, bushing of peg holes
- Bass-bar replacement, soundpost patches and internal repairs
- Varnish cleaning and careful retouching
- Bow rehairs and small bow repairs
Appraisals & second opinions
If you are about to buy, sell or insure an instrument, an independent opinion can save a great deal of trouble. We examine Italian instruments of the 19th and 20th centuries — model, construction, varnish, labels and later interventions — and explain clearly what we see.
Set-up & sound adjustment
A new bridge, a better-placed soundpost or a different set of strings can transform an instrument. Adjustments are made with the player present whenever possible, listening together until the instrument speaks evenly across the strings.
Fine Italian instruments
The workshop can show a selection of modern and antique Italian violins, violas and cellos. Please ask through the enquiry form for the instruments currently available.
Strings, accessories & insurance
Strings and accessories from the leading makers are available at the workshop, and we can help you arrange insurance cover for your instrument.
Rentals for students
Instruments for students and young players are available on request, so that a first good instrument is within reach.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a new violin take?
Usually several months from the first conversation to delivery, depending on the workshop calendar. Ask us for current availability — we are already planning commissions for 2027.
Can I visit the workshop?
Yes, by appointment. Send a message through the online form and we will agree a time.
Do you work on instruments sent from abroad?
Many musicians contact us from outside Italy. Describe the instrument and the work needed in the form and we will reply with the options.
Do you make violas and cellos too?
Yes — violins, violas and cellos are all made in the workshop.
